Man found dead after Far North Dallas apartment fire

Flames seeped out of the window at a Far North Dallas apartment Sunday, but when firefighters arrived, they forced their way inside to find a man already dead, sitting on the couch in the living front room.

Neighbors heard smoke alarms going off at an apartment at River Park Apartments, at 14100 Montfort Drive, between Beltline Road and the Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway. They called 9-11 and Dallas firefighters arrived around 5 p.m., Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.

Fire was coming out of a first-floor window at the apartment, but the doors were locked. Firefighters broke inside and found a man unresponsive, sitting on the couch.

“It didn’t seem like there was any attempt to escape,” Evans said.

The one-alarm fire was extinguished within about 15 minutes.

The cause of the fire and the cause of death were still under investigation, Evans said.
